Vintage People

“Vintage People: Life’s True Desserts”

September 17, 2010 -- 7:00 - 9:00 pm

Join us for a fun evening that highlights the inherent value and worthiness of growing older and into a life of meaning and true purpose. Dr. Jerry Old, author of Vintage People - The Secrets of Successful Aging, says "there is power in aging! People have discovered how to use that power to achieve what they want. Life really can get better as we age!" This is an opportunity to reflect upon the fragile Vintage People in our United Methodist ministries at Asbury Park and Wesley Towers. Pleasant Valley UMC is hosting this event in preparation for Sunday, September 19th when we will celebrate Retirement Home Recognition Day and the special offering that will be taken up in churches all across the Kansas West Conference.

There is no cost to attend and dessert will be provided.

"Jerry L. Old, M.D., is a Board Certified Family Physician in private practice in Arkansas City, Kansas. He is Clinical Assistant Professor, Family and Community Medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, former chief of staff at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center, and is a sought after speaker on the subject of aging in America."

Editorial comments on the book:
"Dr. Old, a family physician, discusses the characteristics of Vintage People and adds to that the wisdom gained from interacting with them during his long career. The book includes many delightful vignettes from and about Vintage People. It is an interesting book about successful aging." -- Dr. Richard Landsat MD, former head of Division of Geriatric Medicine, University of Virginia

"I support Dr. Old's Vintage People as an inspiration and empowerment to older Americans. The contribution of character that they make cannot be discounted." -- Senator Bob Dole

"What refreshing writing for enriching our daily living, whatever our age. Can you imagine an extended conversation with a popular and experienced unpretentious M.D. who actually is willing to learn from every patient he treats? Amidst inspiration in every interesting chapter, this book by Dr. Jerry Old made me determined to keep working on being one of the Vintage People described so colorfully thoughout this engaging book." -- Rev. William E. Bowles, Author--A Daily Key for Today's Christians (Prentice Hall)
