Mission Moment: Letter Carrier’s Food Drive--Saturday, May 9 FIGHTING HUNGER...FEEDING HOPE is the theme of this year’s food drive by the National Association of Letter Carriers as they hit the streets in the largest annual one-day event to combat hunger in the United States. On Saturday, May 9, an army of letter carriers will be picking up bags of food left at mailboxes all over America to stop hunger before it happens to the huge and growing numbers of families battered by the ongoing economic crisis sweeping across the nation. Here in Wichita, the meltdown is cutting deep into the area’s economic health. Your Food Bank is experiencing a 20% increase over last year in the amount of food necessary to fill the growing needs. Please fill the special bag that comes to your mailbox and leave it at your mailbox by 8 o'clock Saturday morning, May 9. All food donated to the Food Bank goes directly and quickly into the hands of the hundreds of Hunger Relief agencies who depend on them to have the help they must have in fighting hunger and feeding hope. Remember: To participate in the 18th Annual NALC Food Drive Saturday, May 9, put your donation of non-perishable food in the bag and leave it at your Mailbox! The letter carriers will do the rest. Most needed items: Canned Meats Meat Based Soups Canned Fruits Canned Vegetables Macaroni & Cheese Rice and Beans No glass or homemade items, please!
Mission Moment: Trees for Life Wichita
Trees for Life International does more than plant trees. They provide communities with many opportunities to stop poverty. Books for Life International, fuel efficient cook stoves and supplying schools with quality educational materials are just a few of the projects Trees for Life is involved in. The international office is located in Wichita, KS (yes, here!) where volunteers recently learned how to produce an animated film. They then produced one to teach people in developing countries the benefits of eating drumstick tree leaves! They also continue helping with projects in Guatemala, India, Haiti, Bolivia and other countries. Currently they are looking for volunteers to help with building repairs; graphic designers for production of newsletters, publications and web pages; janitor to help with cleaning; and other specific duties that only you can describe! Call Jeffrey Faus at 945-6929 or a volunteer@treesforlife.org.

You can work as little as 4 hours per month, or as much as you want! They are in desperate need of bi-lingual volunteers. BUT you must be at least 21 years young!
